Since 1986 Woombye Care has supported elderly and disabled residents with excellent, individual care in a serene rainforest setting. The centre offers a home-like atmosphere and state of the art facilities.

This week the not-for-profit care leader celebrated a new milestone by opening new facilities for greater residential and respite care services.

The $8 Million extension project took two years to complete due to Covid19 restrictions, supply delays and the need to stage the works to facilitate resident relocation.

The project has delivered a new wing for resident care, including 12 additional bedrooms, the demolition and rebuild of 8 rooms and substantial renovation.

The extension also features significant sustainability initiatives, including a rainwater treatment plant under its carparking that is entirely independent of Council’s town water, and new 30kw solar systems on the rooftop to offset most of the facility’s energy needs.

The works were completed over two stages despite extra challenges posed by the pandemic, requiring close collaboration with the builder throughout the project.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson and Woombye Care CEO Tracy McNarn officially opened the extension with residents with a ribbon cutting and morning tea.

The expansion will enable the company to viably continue to offer quality accommodation and support services, and to meet increasing local demand for care.

Woombye Care is a non-denominational residential aged care facility that provides quality care for elderly and disabled people seeking accommodation in a caring, homelike atmosphere.
