Woombye Hall swings back in time – old time music, live band & dance

Step back into a bygone era at the Woombye Hall as the Sunshine Swing Band and their beloved singer, Carolyn, recreate the magic of Old Time and Bush Dances on Friday, December 1.

The program will feature popular, simple, progressive dances – with tuition provided to encourage beginners and younger generations.

After supper, a segment of New Vogue Ballroom Dances will cater for a solid contingent of dedicated ballroom dancers who live close by the Woombye District.

“Ballroom dancing in our Hall is still very popular,” said Hall Committee Vice President Ken Hudson.

Two dance instructors will be present, Barry and Lyn, who have run dances with the band at Belli.

Currently, Dance Instructors Andrew Hanson and Owen Oxley use Woombye Hall every month for classes.

Andrew and Owen each own and run perhaps the biggest two ballroom dancing studios on the Coast.

“In fact, every month, well over 100 dancers use our Hall,” said Ken Hudson.

“But we are very chuffed this long-standing big swing band is again pumping out the live music for us.”

The following Woombye Businesses are each donating a large hot platter prepared by Woombye Bowls Club. These platters will be an array of beautiful hot fish and Asian finger food served with tea and coffee.

“We appreciate and thank our local Woombye businesses, Century 21, Woombye Childcare, Thrill Hill, Luke Heaton Constructions, U Haul Trailers, Sunshine and Sons Distillery and the Woombye Bakery for this lovely food,” said Band Leader John Doza.

Woombye Hall indeed continues to be a very important part of Woombye Village life.

Supper will be on a “bring a plate” basis. Admission adults $10 and starting 7pm.
