Woombye honours Anzacs and raises $800 for Legacy
After the disruptions of the last couple of Anzac Days due to Covid, the Woombye Bowls Club was excited about hosting the breakfast for the community which is usually organised by Rotary.
Rotary donated some bacon and, to help with costs for other food , Treasurer Allan Lambert approached businesses around Woombye and was overwhelmed by their generosity.
Members started arriving around 4am to set up for the morning and were helped by Jan Lawton and her team from Rotary and our staff also donated their time.
Once the club was full of diners Club Chairman Elliott Mitchell mentioned to fellow Vietnam veteran and Rotarian Cecil Rebetzke that a fundraiser for Legacy would have been a good idea.
Cecil promptly requested a bucket and proceeded to walk around asking for donations. Much to their surprise, he returned soon after with $400 due to the community’s generosity.
After counting costs for the morning, the club was flush with $400 more than required and it was a no-brainer to give it to Legacy also.
The Club Chairman was very proud to present Helen Bowes & Rhondda Poor from Legacy with $800 to help them carry on with their very valuable work with veterans and their families.
