Jazz aficionados and music lovers on the Sunshine Coast are in for a treat as the internationally acclaimed pianist, Wil Sargisson, known as the King of Boogie Woogie, brings his formidable talent to The Jazz Sessions at The Presynct in Nambour. Scheduled for 7pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024, this event promises an evening of exuberant 1920s and 1930s blues-infused jazz.

Starting his piano journey at just five years old, New Zealander Wil Sargisson was destined for the stage with a deep-rooted love for Stride and Boogie Woogie. By the age of seventeen, Wil had already made his mark at the prestigious New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival's 'Piano Night', impressing with his dexterity and musicality. His performances there earned him multiple invitations to return, highlighting his unique position as a non-American talent among some of the best pianists in the world.

Wil's debut album, recorded during his teenage years, garnered international acclaim and continues to sell across the globe, from New Orleans to Western Europe. Critics have consistently lauded his technical skills and interpretive prowess, with the Sydney Morning Herald calling his piano technique "formidable."

His influences range from the legendary James Booker, whose albums initially intimidated a young Wil, to the rhythmic complexity of Professor Longhair and Dr. John. Wil’s extensive career has seen him perform with notable acts like ‘The Coasters’ and ‘The Platters’, and feature in about two dozen albums spanning jazz trios to funk ensembles.

Now a key figure in the renowned Australian Jazz band, ‘Galapagos Duck’, Wil continues to explore and expand upon his musical heritage. The upcoming concert at The Presynct will see him joined by Elliot Parker on bass and Mitch Bellert on drums, creating what is expected to be a standout performance celebrating the jubilant music of jazz’s early days.
