Honouring his legacy with every step: 20 years walking for Daniel

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s Walk for Daniel  reaches a special milestone with this year  marking the 20th anniversary of the significant event.

The walk from Suncoast Christian College in Woombye to Briggs Park in Palmwoods is the opening event for Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day – Day for Daniel.

Every year since 2004, the Sunshine Coast community has gathered to complete the walk that symbolises a trip Daniel was tragically unable to complete in December 2003.

Held on Friday 25 October, the 20th Walk for Daniel is expected to be the biggest yet.

“We are proud to be Daniel’s parents and quite moved that 20 years after his abduction those tragic events are not forgotten and his important legacy continues to grow,” Bruce Morcombe said.

Bruce said they were appreciative of everyone who attends and supports Walk for Daniel, including major sponsors BOQ Maroochydore.

Denise Morcombe said, “This year we are reflecting on the past 20 years and on Daniel’s remarkable legacy”.

“As a primary prevention organisation, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation works to reduce the number of incidences and life-long impact of harm and abuse to children.”

People attending Walk for Daniel can park at Palmwoods Warriors Football Club and catch the free shuttle bus from 5.45am to the start of the walk.

Please ensure all children under 14 years of age are supervised, and note no dogs are allowed on the buses.
