Welcome to The Shed, now at Palmwoods

Adding to the towns’ charm and tourism appeal ... The Shed owners Dianna & Geoff Ryan can’t wait to remove the dust covers and open the doors to reveal more than 15,000 items to the public at the restored railway sheds in Palmwoods.

Palmwoods’ reputation as a tourist destination has been strengthened by the arrival of a popular Sunshine Coast business.

The Shed, an upmarket vintage furniture and homewares emporium has relocated to the old railway yards sheds in Main Street, just down from Spar Supermarket.

Geoff and Dianna Ryan’s business outgrew their former large industrial shed in Forest Glen since opening their doors four years ago.

They spent a year searching for a suitable location and, since they decided on Palmwoods, have even moved to the area because they wanted to live where they work and support the local community.

“The Shed is a destination business and by its very nature, we offer our

customers a relaxing, inspiring and unique shopping experience,” said Geoff.

“People love to take their time browsing our extensive range of beautifully curated items,” said Dianna.

“With a coffee shop attached (at Forest Glen) we were able to offer our customers a reason to linger longer and enjoy the ambience. Unfortunately we had a limited kitchen space and very little parking and we soon realised that if we wanted to continue to cater for our customers and keep growing our business, a new home for The Shed and cafe was on the cards.”

The Ryans wanted the exterior of the building to be as charming as the interior.

“So, it had to be an existing large old barn, or a shed in a popular and growing area,” said Geoff, whose building background came in handy in revamping and joining the interior sections of the old building.

“There had to be plenty of room for parking, a large area for a bistro, have a fabulous energy and, of course, plenty of Shed space to house all of the wonderful treasures that we stock.”

They finally came upon the perfect location, a fabulous bank of rustic old railway sheds in Main Street Palmwoods.

An extensive renovation of the building has been completed and with over 15,000 items packed and moved to their new location, the move was indeed a monumental undertaking for the team.

The good news for Palmwoods is The Shed has expanded to include a beautiful licensed Bistro incorporated within the same building.

“Chew Chew Bistro” will be open 6 days a week Tuesday to Sunday from 7.30am until 4pm offering an all day breakfast menu as well as morning/afternoon tea and lunches, with plans to extend trading hours to include dinner in the evenings in the near future.

“It’s the perfect place to enjoy food and drink as you watch the trains go by and soak up the history of Palmwoods,” said Dianna.

• The Shed at Palmwoods will be opening mid July. Opening hours Tuesday-Sunday 9am-4pm. Bookings for the Bistro can be made online via the website www.theshedsca.com.au or 5479 6603.
