Choir of Sound Intent hits a high note, raising $7.5k for Parkinson’s support

Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy (RHPT) celebrated the 4th anniversary of the Choir of Sound Intent recently at The Barn on Flaxton.

RHPT is an ACNC registered charity that provides evidence-based speech and swallowing therapy to those living with Parkinson’s here on the Sunshine Coast. The Choir of Sound Intent is a vital part of their program.

The afternoon was opened by Andrew Powell MP and hosted by Scott Grimley and Christian Hunt.

Over $7500 was raised through auctions and raffles of donated gifts from local businesses and benefactors, orchestrated by the ever-entertaining “Chaffey”.

Once again the handmade and highly sought after Benevolent Bears “Peter” and “Blake” raised $600 each at the auction.

Their creator Lorraine Dipplesmann was presented with a special award for her generous donation each year of these beautiful bears which have raised over $10000 for RHPT.

The RHPT Choir, which is growing and improving each year, performed superbly led by their amazing Choir Director, Riani Rattray. There was a mixture of songs including Hey Jude and Sweet Caroline with rousing input by the very appreciative audience, and Saints of Iona, a special song written by Rick Moore, a member who has Young Onset Parkinson’s.  Several of the choir shared their personal reflections and information about Parkinson’s Disease.

Alison Donaldson, Jane Cann and a fantastic team from the Blackall Range Lions Club made sure things went smoothly and as always, the fantastic staff at The Barn on Flaxton went above and beyond, cheerfully hosting a full house and generously donating by providing coffee and cake for everyone!

Videos of the choir singing can also be found on the Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/rhptherapy/
