The Sunshine Coast Gymnastics Academy (SCGA) has received a major boost, thanks to a recent grant from the Sunshine Coast Council. The funds will be used to replace the club’s old, inefficient lighting system with cutting-edge LED technology, improving visibility and safety for gymnasts, coaches, and visitors.

Club Secretary Jo Abdou noted the far-reaching benefits of the upgrade. “The new lights will allow us to extend our training hours, reduce operational costs, and most importantly, create a safer environment for everyone. This project will have a lasting impact on the club and the wider community,” she said.

The SCGA, a non-profit organisation serving the Palmwoods, Woombye, and Nambour areas, offers competitive and recreational gymnastics and trampolining programs for boys, girls, and adults, as well as Parkour and Kindergym classes. All SCGA coaches are accredited with Gymnastics Australia and hold Blue Cards.

The Academy’s athletes are known for their hard work and dedication, consistently achieving awards at local, regional, and state levels. For those interested in joining, the club offers free trial classes in its recreational program, encouraging new members to experience the fun and fitness gymnastics offers.

Nicklin MP Rob Skelton recently visited the Academy to meet with gymnasts and staff, congratulating them on their grant success. The lighting upgrade will not only enhance the club’s operations but also contribute to energy savings and reduced carbon emissions, making it a win for the environment and the community.

SCGA is proud to have received this grant through Sunshine Coast Council’s grants program, furthering its mission of fostering community engagement and sports excellence.
