Ferguson: 'New PM will deliver inclusive and compassionate government'
from Sue Ferguson, Australian Labor Party Candidate for Fairfax
I made the decision to stand for the seat of Fairfax because I believed that we had no one who was representing the majority of us and that we were missing out.
Before the election campaign started in full and right through till election day, we haven’t heard about addressing climate change, or how to deal with the crisis in aged care, how to attract more GPs to the Sunshine Coast or any way to deal with the escalating cost of living. We certainly did not hear how we can assist people living on the streets or those facing homelessness.
The message was clear, the current member is seen as invisible, not fighting for the needs of Fairfax and not interested in advocating for our most vulnerable.
The counting continues but the numbers state that the seat will remain with the LNP member. What needs to be acknowledged is the swing to Labor in Fairfax, indicating people are wanting change, wanting more from their representative.
I also believe as a country we deserve a true leader, one that would take responsibility and have integrity.
Anthony Albanese as our new Prime Minister will deliver an inclusive and compassionate government, one that takes climate change seriously and will fully implement the Uluru Statement of the Heart.
I know we will see great positive change for our country, new trust and faith in government and a country that will support all Australians, with no one left behind. I fully intend to be the Labor candidate at the next federal election and ensure we get the best for Fairfax, a better future.
