Op Shop to host Christmas celebration for children and families

The St Augustine's Anglican Church Op Shop in Palmwoods is hosting a free Christmas celebration for children and families on Sunday, December 8 at 4pm. The special event will feature an interactive children's service, a nativity scene chalk mural, carols under the stars, and a free sausage sizzle.

The interactive children's service will be led by the Rev John Cornish and will feature music, singing, and the story of Christmas read by Laurie Grimwade.

The Op Shop ladies say they want to tell the Christmas story, in a way that offers more than just jingle bells and presents.

A beautiful nativity scene chalk mural created by young artists from Maroochydore will be on display on the footpath outside the church.

After the service, there will be carols under the stars with free glow-in-the-dark candles. A free sausage sizzle and ice-blocks will also be available.

"We wanted to create a special event for children and families to celebrate the joy of Christmas," said Op Shop coordinator, Anne Leach.

"We hope that this event will be a fun and meaningful experience for everyone who attends."

The event is open to the public and all are welcome. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or a cozy rug to relax on while they sing along.

Thanks to the generosity of the Anglican Op Shop, the Palmwoods School Playgroup families receive weekly fruit packs and much-needed living assistance from the Op Shop for some who are doing it tough. School Chaplain Chappy T (right) invited the ladies to the playgroup breakup to express her gratitude for their ongoing support. Op Shops

Beyond the financial advantages, op shops contribute to sustainability by extending the lifespan of goods and diverting waste from landfills. By giving items a second life, they help reduce textile waste and minimize the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing new products.
