A record-breaking number of top athletes participated in the Sports Climbing Queensland State Titles championship event last weekend at Forest Glen’s Flow Bouldering premium climbing gym.

Lucy Stirling from Brisbane won the Queensland State Title 2022 Womens’ Open competition. It was Lucy’s last Australian competition before heading overseas for the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) Boulder and Lead World Cup Season.

The Queensland State Titles 2022 Men’s Open competition was won by Sam Bowman from Brisbane.

Both winners qualify for the 2022 Australian Boulder Nationals, potentially the World Cup and the Olympics.

It was the second year running that Flow Bouldering climbing gym hosted the  event.

Sports Climbing is one of the fastest-growing sports at competitive and amateur levels.

“It was thrilling to see such top-level climbing” said Operations Manager Angel Freeman.

Flow is operated by internationally-experienced climbers James Hembury with partner and Angel, both of whom are Sunshine Coast locals.

“This vibrant community hub provides fitness and mental health, a great social network, plus local favourite Guru Life coffee and food,” said Angel.

“Seeing world-class climbing here on the Sunshine Coast is such a motivator for all local climbers, especially the youngsters and Flow’s Youth Squad,” said James.
