SPAR Woombye has a sports star working in its grocery division, with 22-year-old Jordan Overs winning four medals for swimming at the recent Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.
Jordan, who has Downs Syndrome, competed for the second time at the games as part of the Australian team.
He returned home to show off a silver medal for the freestyle relay swim, two bronze medals in the 200m and 400m individual freestyle events, and a 5th place medal.
He has been a swimmer ever since being a toddler and spending time with family and relatives in the family spa and pool.
“I was two years old, I hopped in the spa with my dad, mum and grandad, and uncles and aunties,” he explained.
“And grandma’s pool, and then I started kicking my legs and found out I was swimming.
“I like the moves, I like being big and strong and fast, and also being healthy, it’s great.”
Swimming has taken Jordan all over Australia and the world.
“I have been across the world, to Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle, New Zealand and this year was Abu Dhabi,” he said.
“I went to swim my hardest, which was great.”
Jordan hopes to compete at the Special Olympics World Games next year, which will be held in Germany.
Congratulations Jordan for your amazing sporting achievement and also your dedicated work at SPAR Woombye. Well done and best wishes for many more great results to come.
