Sophie on track for the 2020 Olympics

Sophie Tiver from West Woombye has racked up some impressive sporting achievements over the summer athletics season.After four months off the track due to injury Sophie returned to competition and her achievements will put her one step closer to her dream to represent Australia at the 2020 Olympics.Last week she competed in the Australian Multi-Event Championships (Heptathlon) U17 and came home with the Silver medal.Last month Sophie travelled to Sydney to compete in three events at the Australian Junior Championships; High Jump, Long Jump and 400 meter hurdles, and she again came home with a Silver medal for the 400 meter hurdles.Sophie said juggling school work and her rigorous trains schedule is a challenge, "It is hard to find time to fit my school work in," Sophie explains. "I love competing so much, it is worth all the hard work when you have finished and won your event. My next goal is to qualify for the World Juniors in 2016, it will be a lot of work but I'm ready for it."At the Queensland Junior Championships she came home with Gold in 400 meter hurdles, Silver for High Jump and Bronze in the Long Jump.As well as competing in Queensland and Australian athletics events Sophie has competed for the Sunshine Coast University Little Athletics and at the Queensland Little Athletics State championships where she came home with Gold in High Jump, Silver in Long Jump, 400 meters and 200 meter hurdles.It is a huge commitment to compete at this level and Sophie has the support of her family, her mother Linda is there every step of the way helping Sophie achieve her dream.
