Helping Hands: Secrets on the Lake joins forces with The Shack for a worthy cause

George and Aldy Johnston have launched a raffle to help homeless people. Prizes include one and two nights stays at Secrets.

George and Aldy Johnston of Secrets on the Lake in Montville are joining forces with The Shack in Nambour over the coming month to raise money for the homeless in our community.

“Since we opened our restaurant, George and I have turned our thoughts to helping out others in the community,” said Aldy.

“For the next few weeks our focus will be on raising funds for the homeless, in collaboration with The Shack Community Centre at Nambour.”

Run by Dale and Donna Dowler, The Shack provides support for the homeless around Nambour and the Sunshine Coast, from basic food, meals and facilities, to emotional support.

“We are very aware that there are many more in this situation including families with young children,” Aldy said.

“It is very apparent that support from Government is extremely slow and ineffective, so the community itself needs to help in any way they can. We are appealing to you to purchase tickets, or help sell tickets in our Helping Hands raffle.

“Tickets are available now at Secrets on the Lake, The Shack, Soothe Hairdressing in Montville, and Mapleton Pharmacy.”

The raffle will be drawn on November 9 at an Early bird Morning Tea valued at $35.

Prizes include a one and two-nights stay in a luxury Secrets Treehouse, two $100 vouchers for Dining on the Deck, and jewellery.

Lucky door prizes include a night’s accommodation, a cafe voucher, bottles of wine and other goodies. Tickets are $5 each.

“There may even be those who would like to donate directly, and this would be wonderful and very welcome,” Aldy said.

“With homelessness on the rise in our area, it is a practical way we can all show our support to those in need.”
