Big Band brings dance music to Palmwoods Memorial Hall

Scream, an 18-piece Big Band based on the Sunshine Coast, is set to perform at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall on Saturday May 6.

The band will provide a mix of music from the Duke Ellington and Glen Miller era to Buble, Rock ‘n Roll, Waltz and Jive, catering to all dancing styles.

Old time and new vogue dancers are welcome to this upcoming gathering, which promises to be a significant musical event on the coast.

Mark, a big band enthusiast, said dancing with a big band was an exceptional experience that would create great memories. Fellow enthusiasts Alan and Rachael were eagerly anticipating experiencing a live big band that played all styles.

Scream was founded in 2004 as a social group for retired and ex-Armed Forces musicians to play good music for their enjoyment. “Having served in the various arms of the Defence Force, the highly trained ex-members of military bands found themselves missing the camaraderie and dedication they were used to in the military,” said spokesman Kevin Brown.

“As a result Scream was born and with it a level of professionalism was achieved which is unique to Military bands the world over.”

The band has a traditional 18-piece Big Band format, complete with several vocalists who are also featured.  They have performed at several venues on the Sunshine Coast, including the Noosa Jazz Festival, and have shared the stage with artists such as Jacki Cooper, John Morrison, Bobby Valentine, and Grace Knight.
