After the declaration of peace on 15 August, 2015, organizations wondered how to honour those who had joined the armed forces. Nambour Scouts decided on an honour board naming ex Scouts and Scouters from both the 1st and 2nd World Wars.

The Nambour Chronicle reported the unveiling of the Nambour Scouts’ Honour Board by Mr D.A. Low M.L.A. .who congratulated the Scouts’ committee on their “desire to perpetuate the memory of those who had formerly been associated with Scouting and who had given service to their country”.

The unveiling took place with much ceremony in front of a large audience including 50 Scouts and Cubs at their Scout hall in Mitchell Street, Nambour. (now the site of Lind Lane Theatre).

Mr W. Lees made the board, while the “ lettering and beautiful embellishments” were the work of Mr A. P. Dowd. A United States citizen, Mr Dowd was a very well known Nambour painter whose beautiful murals still survive in some older Nambour homes.

The Nambour Museum is proud to have on display the Scouts’ Honour Board as well as the Rosemount State School Honour Board 1914 – 1918 and the Maroochy River State School marble plaque.
