Nil Desperandum’s Rum Fire: toast to tradition, triumph of spirit

Rum Fire is a spirited celebration of Queensland Rum Day.

Rum enthusiasts and families gathered in Woombye last weekend for Rum Fire, a spirited celebration of Queensland Rum Day hosted by Nil Desperandum Rum at the award-winning Sunshine & Sons distillery. The event offered a blend of history, community, and revelry, showcasing the distillery’s achievements and the enduring allure of rum.

From 1pm, the distillery came alive with live music, food trucks, and activities for all ages. Adults enjoyed tastings of Nil Desperandum Rum’s finest, including The Double Ton, recently crowned Best Rum at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards. Jack O’Neill, known as the distillery’s ‘Brand Dude,’ highlighted the excitement around a limited-edition release that attendees described as “mind-blowing.”

Adding to the atmosphere, a roaring bonfire lit up the evening, embodying the warmth and camaraderie synonymous with rum’s legacy. Parents relaxed with a drink in hand while children enjoyed the day’s activities, underscoring the event’s family-friendly spirit.

With easy access and complimentary parking, the event was seamless for guests. Rum Fire 2024 wasn’t just a day out; it was a toast to tradition, innovation, and the community’s shared passion for this iconic drink.

Nil Desperandum’s doors remain open daily for tastings and tours, inviting visitors to experience firsthand why their rums have captured both awards and hearts.
