Nicklin residents are being encouraged to channel their artistic talents in a new competition launched by local MP Rob Skelton. The “Nicklin Corflute Competition” invites community members to transform one of Mr Skelton’s political signs into a unique work of art.

The competition, open from 26 September to 9 October 2024, was inspired by a creatively “vandalised” corflute that caught Mr Skelton’s attention. Rather than seeing it as an act of damage, he saw an opportunity to turn it into something positive.

“This competition is a great way to engage with the community and put a creative spin on political campaigning. I can’t wait to see the originality and talent we have right here in Nicklin,” said Mr Skelton.

Artists aged 16 and over can collect a blank corflute from the Nicklin Electorate Office in Nambour. Completed designs must be returned by 5pm on 9 October for a chance to win one of three prizes: $250 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third.

The competition will be judged on creativity, originality, and relevance to political themes, with winners announced at the Nambour Twilight Markets on 11 October.
