Honouring the Fallen:

Nambour RSL Sub Branch is calling on the local community to gather for a solemn and respectful Remembrance Day ceremony at Quota Memorial Park on Monday, 11 November 2024. The service will begin at 10.30am, providing an opportunity for all to come together and honour the servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts, including World War I.

“Remembrance Day serves as a solemn reminder of the service and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women who lost their lives,” said Kim Symmons, pictured, President of the Nambour RSL Sub Branch. “Gallipoli, France, and Belgium were stained with the blood of Australian soldiers. We must never forget.”

Originally known as Armistice Day, the event was renamed Remembrance Day following World War II and has since been observed annually on 11 November. The day marks a shared moment of reflection, with Australians uniting in one minute of silence at 11am. The tradition commemorates the over 60,000 Australians who died and the 416,000 who enlisted to defend the country.

“We have kept this promise and will continue to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Mr Symmons added. “About one in five Australians who enlisted in WW1 died. The community’s presence at this ceremony will contribute to the continuing promise of remembrance for all those who have served and died in wars since, for our great country.”

Everyone is invited to join the ceremony to ensure that the spirit of remembrance endures.
