Work is progressing on a $500,000 Nambour Streetscaping Improvement Project to revitalise the town with creative lighting, public artwork, footpath art, banners and a marketing campaign.

The project, being coordinated by Reimagine Nambour, was made possible thanks to federal funding secured by Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien.

Local urban design company, Pomo, is managing the  project with Pomo Design Director Mr Stephen Burton reporting directly to the Reimagine Nambour board.

“All project work is progressing well, the creative lighting design is in the final stages with permission and support from stakeholders and property owners almost completed,” said Reimagine Nambour Chairman Peter Boyce.

“There are seven key streetscaping locations that include entry points into Nambour as well as lighting through Currie St to enhance the atmosphere in the Special Entertainment Precinct.

Mr Boyce said locations for street sculptures within the Special Entertainment Precinct required site visits and extensive engagement with stakeholders to identify  potential spaces for three street sculptures, one of which will feature interactive technology and lighting.

“More than 30 artists submitted expressions of interest last month and the number of highly regarded artists eager to be part of the sculptural opportunity in Nambour is very exciting.”

From these expressions, Sunshine Coast Regional Council will assist in shortlisting the artists who will be invited to respond to the sculptural brief and specifications. Nambour residents will then view the proposals and vote for their favourite sculpture.

“A number of locations have been identified to place banners celebrating the new Nambour brand,” Mr Boyce said. “The goal is to highlight the entry and exit points and increase awareness towards the town centre.”

Celebratory events to herald new brand and bright future for Nambour

A series of events will be held in the Garden at the Nambour Tram Terminus heralding Nambour’s new brand design and looking towards a bright future for the former sugar town. The events will mark a milestone in the work being done by Reimagine Nambour, established in February 2020 to support the economic transition and development of the community.

The June events include: Sconetime, A Soiree, A Gala Event and Music in the Park.

Reimagine Nambour Chairman Peter Boyce encouraged locals to note the following dates and stay tuned for more updates.

• Friday June 18: Reimagine Nambour event, “Sconetime” in the Garden at the Nambour Tram Terminus from 10am-12noon.

• Friday June 18: Reimagine Nambour’s “A Soiree” in the Garden at the Nambour Tram Terminus from 5pm-7pm.

• Saturday June 19: Reimagine Nambour’s “A Gala Event” in the Garden at the Nambour Tram Terminus from 6pm till late.

• Sunday June 20: Reimagine Nambour’s “Music in the Park” in the Garden at the Nambour Tram Terminus from 10am.

Report incidents to help attract  resources 

Reimagine Nambour’s  Safety Action Group is tasked with safeguarding the Nambour CBD and ensuring everyone’s right to feel safe.

The group recently received advice from stakeholders including local services and groups committed to improving the complex issues relating to safety in the town.

Reimagine Nambour Chairman Peter Boyce said two Queensland Rail Managers attended a meeting and spoke of the need for people to report incidents to Police as the information from these reports was used to allocate policing resources.

“Police encourage all people who have been a victim of crime or witness to a crime to contact them at their earliest opportunity. No matter how trivial the incident is, it is imperative you report all activity. If you report a crime and do not get feedback do not be discouraged, the information you provide to the police is vital and contributes greatly to improving safety.”
