Re-formed QCWA branch celebrates birthday

The Yandina Branch of the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) recently celebrated their 5th birthday since re-forming.

An enjoyable high tea marked the re-activation of the Branch which had been active from 1929 to 1991. It then closed due to lack of membership.

“In 2015 a keen group of ladies reopened the Branch which now has a healthy membership of 24 ladies,” said current President Maureen Brook.

“One of the members, Debbie Hopsick, hosted the event at her lovely, spacious home. The ladies caught up over delicious home-baked savoury and sweet treats while maintaining social distancing as required by COVID-19 restrictions.”

Maureen baked the birthday cakes that were cut by founding President and Vice President, Lynda Tomkins and Cathy Kunde.

The Branch has monthly meetings at 9.30am on the fourth Friday of the month at the QCWA Division Hall at 11 Stevens Street, Yandina and interested ladies are welcome to attend. QCWA is not for profit, non-sectarian and non-political with a simple vision: “for the women of Queensland to come together to support communities, while celebrating their interests and forging friendships in a respectful and caring environment”.
