The Queensland Country Women’s Association, QCWA, is in its Centenary Year and there was much to celebrate last Friday and Saturday when members from near and far gathered for their annual Central Region Conference. For many members it was a chance to renew friendships while new friendships were made for debutant Conference Delegates.

The Conference, hosted by the Nambour North Coast Division, welcomed 69 members from as far afield as Moranbah in the north, west to Emerald and all points between to as far south as Beerwah. The Nambour RSL proved a hospitable venue as delegates enjoyed local presenters from the Sunshine Coast Library Services giving valuable tips around the topic of Digital Safety, the CBA Nambour Branch Manager guiding all through on-line banking and gaining an insight into how to best prepare media releases from the Editor of the Glasshouse & Maleny News.

“Members also took time to discuss important aspects about the Association such as our Centenary Celebrations, the care of our extensive archive collection, our connection with like-minded women from across the world through the organisation of Associated Country Women of the World, and looking forward to where our Association will be in the next 10, 20, 40 years and beyond,” said QCWA Nambour & North Coast Division President Patsy Lee.

“A further part of the Central Region Conference is the celebration of our Member’s creative talents in the annual Contests of Sewing, Public Speaking, Upcycling Pre-Loved Clothing, Creating a useful article from a tea-towel, Photography and International activities. There were many entries focussing on Pineapples which is the 2022 Primary Product of the Year focus for the QCWA.”

The Conference concluded with a Celebratory Dinner and the invitation for the 2023 Conference being issued by the Central Highlands Division.
