Chevallum-based company GeoDrill Australia has won a significant share of a $25 million contract as part of the Queensland Government’s Big Build for the Borumba Pumped Hydro project. 

The project is a key component of Queensland’s $107 billion Big Build program, which focuses on housing, clean energy, and major infrastructure development across the state.

The family-owned business specialising in geotechnical and water drilling services, will conduct essential surface-level geotechnical drilling for the project. Managing Director Thomas Partleton expressed his excitement about the opportunity.  

“Our expertise in geotechnical drilling aligns perfectly with the needs of this project, and we’re eager to support Queensland’s shift towards a sustainable energy future. This project will not only grow our team by 30 new members but also contribute to the local economy and the clean energy transition,” he said.

Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton highlighted the importance of the project. “This project is not just about delivering on our renewable energy targets, it’s about empowering our local economy. 

Hundreds of millions of dollars in public investment will directly benefit the Sunshine Coast, driving innovation, supporting local employment, and securing a stronger economic future for the region,” he said.

Labor says the Borumba Pumped Hydro Project is set to create up to 3000 jobs and deliver widespread economic benefits across the Sunshine Coast. 

In the last financial year, the Queensland Government invested more than $355 million in contracts to small and medium businesses in the region, with GeoDrill Australia now set to benefit from this significant boost.
