Nambour groups plan to put parking on the map

A map outlining Nambour parking options, similar to this, is being discussed to help ease parking concerns in the short term.

Nambour groups including ReImagine Nambour, Nambour Tram Co, Nambour Chamber of Commerce and Nambour Retailers Group met recently to continue with a roll-out of a Nambour Activation plan along with Sunshine Coast Council.

Despite some delays to prioritised roll-out items the group is seeing some items progress well, including last week’s introduction of a public piano in the town square on the corner of Lowe and Short Streets.

“It’s great to get some runs on the board for the Nambour CBD,” said IAmNambour Brand Ambassador Rhonda Billett. “And there is more to come.”

One item on the agenda for the group was the increasing pressure surrounding parking in the Nambour CBD.

“There are a lot of internal conversations at local and State Government levels taking place regarding parking and Currie St beautification at present,” said Ms Billett. “However this is a long process and the groups identified that we need a quick fix for the community in the interim.

“We are looking for Council support to revitalise and update an older Nambour Retailers existing parking map for Nambour.  We will get it updated and made digital so everyone can access the map including businesses, locals and employees working in Nambour.  The last time we undertook this project was over 10 years ago in brochure form, so its time for an update.”

Ms Billett said the map would clearly outline where to park, for how long you can park in different areas and locations and options for all-day parking.

“Parking is always a hot topic in planning schemes and regarding developments and infrastructure. The process can seem never ending,” said Rhonda.  We don’t have all the solutions to parking in the Nambour CBD, however we can better manage what we do have in the interim.”
