As the hot summer months draw to a close the Community Garden at Palmwoods, otherwise known as ‘Soil and Soul’ continues to provide a place of learning, growing and connection. 

At this time of year there is lots of opportunity to grow vegetables, herbs and fruit but we also see this as a place to grow friendships, learn about plants and our environment and rekindle a connection to nature. 

Community Gardens members find that this connection to earthly pursuits helps physically, mentally and even spiritually.

Last year when COVID hit we started a ‘Reflection in the Garden’ twice a month to provide a safe space to gently allow the symbols and presence of nature to heal and inspire.

We still have our “Growing Together” gatherings on the 4th Sunday of the month and Working Bees on the other Saturday mornings.

Thanks to the funding from Heritage Bank and a donation from Gourmet Garden we were able to purchase a shelter which makes these events and our workshops less weather dependent.

Our Native Plants Workshop, funded by the Australian Government’s Communities Environment Program and our Autumn Planting Workshop, with Anne Gibson and sponsored by Sunshine Real Estate, were both well attended and we look forward to more workshops during the year.
