Founded in 1955 as the North Coast Orchid Society, the group was established to promote the appreciation and cultivation of orchids in the local community. Over the years, the society has had several name changes to reflect the growing regional identity of the Sunshine Coast, but its mission has remained the same: to foster a love for orchids and share knowledge about their cultivation. The society has played a crucial role in preserving Australian native orchids and introducing new hybrid varieties to gardeners in the region.

Some of the early members who helped establish the society are still involved today, continuing to share their passion for growing and caring for orchids. The foresight shown by our early members, along with their dedication to sharing knowledge, is the backbone of today’s Nambour Orchid Society.

Over 600 species of orchids are native to Australia and there are more than 30,000 species worldwide.

The Sunshine Coast is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty of orchids in full flower.

The region provides many different temperate zones from mountainous ranges to sea level regions, thus allowing a wide range of species, both natives and hybrids, to be grown and flower, rewarding the owners with a spectacular result for all their hard work in establishing their plants.

The show promises to be a fantastic opportunity for the community to increase their knowledge of orchids and celebrate the beauty of these unique plants.
