Orchid Society  raises $2000 for hospice care

Nambour Orchid Society Patron Graham Robertson presents a $2000 donation to Jill and Mel from Cittamani Hospice, celebrating another successful Species Show.

The Nambour Orchid Society’s annual Species Show, held on 9 November at the Uniting Church Hall in Buderim, proved to be a blooming success once again, with more than 600 visitors enjoying the beautiful floral display. The event raised $2000 for Cittamani Hospice, which was presented by the Society’s Patron, Graham Robertson, to Mel and Jill from Cittamani who expressed their gratitude for the continued support.

Nambour Orchid Society President Roger Barratt, highlighted the importance of their contribution to the community. “We recognise the hard work that goes into maintaining such an essential service for those experiencing end-of-life situations. Our ongoing donations to Cittamani are a way for us to assist and give back.”

The Species Show featured a captivating display of 423 orchids, with a wide variety of unique flowers filling the hall with their colours and fragrance. Standout entries included George Peever’s Cattleya purpurata, which earned Reserve Champion and an Award of Merit, and Rod Aisthorpe’s Ancistrochilus rothchildianus, an orchid of botanical interest named after naturalist Walter Rothchild.

Jenny Scott, Vice President of the Port Curtis Orchid Society, also took home accolades with her Aerides rosea, which was named Champion Specimen and Show Champion, recognised for the quality of its flowers and presentation.

The Nambour Orchid Society extends its thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the event, including the Sunshine Valley Gazette for helping spread the word. For details on upcoming events, visit www.nambourorchidsociety.com.
