Queensland Police Service issued the following statement in relation to our coverage, in the last edition, of Reimagine Nambour’s initiative to gauge interest in paying for extra police patrols in the Nambour CBD.

“In July this year the new $8.3 million Nambour Police Station was officially opened by the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. The station is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and allows the Sunshine Coast District capability to redeploy further policing resources to meet calls for service.

“The Sunshine Coast District is also able to leverage capacity from specialist commands such as the Highway Patrol Group, Forensic Crash Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, Child Protection Investigation Unit and the District Intelligence Unit which are all housed in the new facility.

“Nambour Police Station is staffed with 30 sworn police officers and resourced with six marked police vehicles, two unmarked crime services vehicles and two forensic crash vehicles with drone capability.

“The facility was built fit for purpose and delivers professional, comprehensive policing services and capability to meet the complex demands of the Nambour community.

“Police are currently undertaking Operation Lucent in Nambour to address property crime and good order offences with the deployment of resources from across the district.

“In addition, a School Based Police Officer (SBPO) regularly patrols the Central Business District and precinct in relation to youth crime.

“District Police Liaison Officers (PLOs) have also provided a presence in the CBD through foot patrols and the “Coffee with a Cop” initiative in Nambour Plaza.

“The Queensland Police Service remains committed to enhancing public safety in the Nambour CBD and will continue to liaise with community stakeholders in relation to any concerns.”
