MP launches petition for satellite hospital

Nicklin MP Rob Skelton has launched a call for a satellite hospital based on the Sunshine Coast.

Since 2020, the Government has built seven new satellite hospitals across South East Queensland with more than 130,000 Queenslanders accessing healthcare from them.

Initial data from Queensland Health has demonstrated a 12% reduction in presentations at local hospitals, as a result of the local satellite hospital. The services provided at these satellite hospitals include free walk-in, urgent care for illnesses and injuries not anticipated to be life-threatening in nature and outpatient services such as mental health services, kidney dialysis and other allied health services.

“Labor’s Satellite Hospitals have been highly successful in reducing pressure on our local hospitals,” Mr Skelton said.

“They make an incredibly effective addition to the local healthcare network and provide Queenslanders with greater choice to access free walk-in urgent care.

“Since being elected as the MP for Nicklin, I have been committed to delivering better healthcare on the Sunshine Coast - including delivering the Nambour Hospital Expansion which will deliver an extra 118 beds and an expanded ED.

“Now, I want to see a Satellite Hospital on the Sunshine Coast so that our region can experience the same benefits as the rest of the South East.”

Mr Skelton encouraged all Sunshine Coast residents to sign his petition: https://form.123formbuilder.com/6714495/satellite-hospital-nicklin
