New book casts light on early Woombye life

From left, Margaret Woodrow, Judith Bandt and Lynn Mabb worked on the book. They are pictured with Joyce Hungerford’s son David Milligan at the launch.

Never Give Up – Joyce’s Story throws a spotlight on the small rural community of Woombye in the early part of the twentieth century, seen through the eyes of Joyce Hungerford, a member of one of the district’s pioneering families.

The book was produced by members of a Woombye Community and Business Association sub-group (Woombye – Our Place, Our Story) and launched at a function at Woombye Bowls Club on Thursday (24 June).

Members of the community and special guests enjoyed hearing about how the book came about, followed by afternoon tea.

Never Give Up – Joyce’s Story is also a book about one woman’s moral courage, determination and unconditional love for her family, her friends, and her community.

This account of an ordinary, yet extraordinary, life will engage and enthral the reader. There will be tears, there will be smiles, but above all there will be great admiration for the author.

Never Give Up – Joyce’s Story is available at the Woombye Post Office and Bendigo Bank, priced at $15. Proceeds will help develop future heritage projects.
