Need someone to talk to?

Chay’s MOB celebrated Corinne’s Birthday last week. Corinne is seated with case manager Bailey Lancaster and from left organisers Leigh Phelan and Sasha Fenger and Eumundi Coffee barrista Tom Rumble.

What started as a suicide prevention group has evolved in to a place in Nambour for people who just need someone to talk to.

The deliberately informal group is called Chay’s Community MOB.  Chay was a well-liked homeless man who used to join the group until he passed away.

“It’s a group of lovely people who provide community support every Tuesday from 9.30am-11.30am,” said Jackie Grassel who helps promote the meetings. “They have  been running this group for two and a half years. It started as a suicide prevention group but we found people just wanted someone to talk to ... so that’s what we do – we are there to listen.”

Organisers Leigh Phelan and Sasha Fenger said the venue at C Square was ideal because it was central, well known and open air. The meetings are low key and low pressure with people coming and going as they please.

“It’s just somewhere to come and chat. It’s a safe environment and people appreciate being in the open air.”

The meetings are well served for refreshment with expert barristas from Eumundi Coffee providing tantalising brews.

You can join the group every Tuesday morning for friendship, a cuppa & a snack at “C” Square, Nambour. “Everyone is welcome. We’re here to listen. We would love to see you there.” For information phone Leigh on 0407 344 550.
