Picture of joy: local artist brings nativity scene to life at St Augustine’s Church
A festive evening at St Augustine's Anglican Church, Palmwoods, was made even more magical by the artistic talents of Keith Innes, a local artist from Maroochydore.
Keith brought the nativity story to life with a stunning mural on the church's pathway, captivating both children and adults who attended the carol night.
The event, which attracted around 40 attendees, celebrated community spirit and the holiday season.
Keith's mural served as a centerpiece, drawing admiration and sparking conversations among visitors. The artist's thoughtful work added a layer of meaning to the carols, resonating with the theme of hope and peace.
Keith shared insights into his artistic journey.
Originally from Nambour, Keith has spent the past three years honing his craft.
His artistic career started unexpectedly during a community meal initiative at St Peter's Anglican Church in Maroochydore, where he began with simple sketches.
These moments rekindled his passion for art, transforming his pastime into a powerful tool for spreading messages of peace and connection.
Keith described his process as a mix of inspiration and careful planning.
“I scout through magazines and picture books to find images that spark ideas,” he explained.
“For this mural, I used a photo on my phone as a reference for the general design. It took about an hour and a half to complete.”
The carol night mural, depicting the nativity scene, not only entertained but also inspired thoughtful reflection.
Keith mentioned the joy he feels when passersby stop to admire his work and engage in conversations.
“Seeing people smile and connect with the artwork is incredibly rewarding,” he said.
St Augustine’s parishioners expressed their gratitude for Keith’s contributions.
The mural exemplifies how art can bridge community bonds, even in fleeting moments, and bring new life to cherished traditions.
As the holiday season unfolds, Keith’s artwork stands as a testament to the enduring power of creativity and the spirit of giving.
