NYU to celebrate 50 years of local football history

Nambour Yandina United Football Club is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special event at the Nambour RSL on Saturday, 28th September. The night promises to be a memorable occasion, looking back at five decades of football and community spirit while also focusing on the future of the club.

The celebration will kick off with doors opening at 5pm, followed by presentations from 6:00pm. Attendees will enjoy a two-course dinner, dessert, music, and a chance to reminisce over the club’s achievements. The dress code for the evening is smart casual, and tickets are $55 per person.

“Reaching this milestone is a testament to the passion and dedication of everyone involved with Nambour Yandina United over the years,” said Hayden Staite, Administrator of the club. “It’s a great opportunity for current and former members to come together and celebrate the club’s rich history as we look forward to the next 50 years.”

Formed in 1997 through the amalgamation of the Nambour Reds  (founded in 1974) and Yandina Eagles (founded in 1976), the club now boasts over 400 players across multiple age groups and divisions.

Reds appoint new FQPL3 Men’s Coach

Nambour Yandina United Football Club is thrilled to announce Trent Kelly, pictured left with Club President Jeff McColl, as the new head coach for the 2025 FQPL3 Men’s squad. Kelly, who has previously coached at clubs such as Sunshine Coast Fire, Caloundra, and Sunshine Coast Wanderers, brings a wealth of experience and football knowledge to the team.

Kelly thanked the committee for the opportunity. “NYU is a big club on the Coast and has potential to grow to become an ideal destination for quality community football and beyond,” he said.

He also highlighted the club’s strong community presence, especially when the “red army” of supporters helps the team on match days. “NYU has always been a tough team to play against, especially when the red army is helping them get over the line. I’m excited about what we can achieve in 2025.”

Kelly is looking forward to working with the current squad, making a few key additions, and leading the team to what he hopes will be a successful season.

“I’m really Looking forward to meeting the great people that make this club strong on and off the field.” 

The club believes Kelly’s leadership will help build and sustain the team’s position at the top of the FQPL3 league.
