Car restorers to roll up for rare parts at Nambour Swap Meet

Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club President Rob Latham who restores Volkswagen models loves the challenge of rebuilding within a budget.

After a one-year hiatus due to Covid-19 the Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club is ready to roll with its annual Swap Meet  held at the wonderful Nambour Showgrounds on July 31.

“This time last year we were commiserating over the lack of an event, but this year it is full steam ahead with preparations for a bumper of a Swap,” said secretary Ro Latham.

“People will be able to search for, and hopefully source, that elusive part. Many parts required by restorers are now virtually unavailable as new stock. There will also be auto memorabilia, quality reproduction parts and panels, tool suppliers, model cars, bric a brac and of course, coffee, food vendors and ATM’s on site.

“We have well over 300 pre-booked swap site holders and we’d love to  see them supported with a great public turn-out.”

Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club President Rob Latham (Ro’s husband) rebuilds Volkswagen models and said people restored vehicles for both love and money. Either way he said restored vehicles generally held their value very well.

The Swap Meet is open to further casual site holders who were welcome to arrive and register from 10am on Friday July 30 to 5am Saturday July 31.

The Main gates and Bli Bli Road gates of the Nambour Showgrounds will be open to the public from 6am on Saturday July 31.

Public entry is $5 per person and $5 per vehicle for parking on site.

“This is our only annual fundraising event,” said Ro.

SCACC is a not-for-profit company and exists to foster, encourage and advance interest in the history, restoration, care and preservation of old engine driven vehicles.

The club is active in the community through financial donations and attendance at community events. It also conducts events that allow members ample opportunities to enjoy use of their vehicles.
