Thanks for loving local and supporting small business

Shiralee Cooper ...  “We are on the bounce back, thanks to our 80 plus members and their ongoing support”.

As part of Queensland Small Business Month, Montville Chamber of Commerce and The Gazette are celebrating the tourist town’s amazing local offerings with a Small Business Month Shop Local Campaign.

This edition we’re featuring cafes and restaurants, accommodation and weddings. Next edition we’ll focus on galleries, retailers and professional services.

The feature comes hot on the heels of the town being named recently as a finalist in the Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s Top Tourism Town Awards.

“Small business week is an opportunity to give a shout out to all our hinterlanders who Shop Local and support our amazing traders who are the backbone of the town,” said Montville Chamber of Commerce President Shiralee Cooper.

“We have been so fortunate to have so many people head up to the hills rediscovering Montville and the hinterland helping our community weather this unpredictable pandemic..”

As a volunteer incorporated association Ms Cooper said Montville Commerce’s aim was to promote economic vitality and sustainability in Montville. “We like to create opportunities to deliver business and community growth, such as this Small Business Month Shop Local Campaign,” she said.

“Our executive team brings a wealth of local knowledge, small business experience and skills to the table to work for our members. The executives' experience and skills along with other key tourism business and individuals has seen us become a finalist in the QTIC Top Tourism Town Awards. The winner is announced on May 20.”

Other projects/programs are the Chamber’s Christmas Shopper Campaign and Festive Street Fair, Magic of a Montville Christmas Photography Competition, A Village Wedding Expo, Welcome to Montville Shopping Map as well as a Restaurant & Café Opening Times spreadsheet resource.”

The Chamber also has just set the date for a Christmas in July event featuring shopping and markets, street entertainment and food stalls followed by a long table Christmas Dinner and Ball on 17 July from 3.30pm.

“While 2020 was a difficult year we are on the bounce back, thanks to our 80 plus members and their ongoing support. We invite business owners to our general meetings which are held on the second Wednesday of every month.”

Ms Cooper said the chamber held a variety of evening and breakfast networking meetings with topics ranging from educational to social. You can become a member and benefit from members’ pricing.

“If you would like to be a member, we are offering May and June complimentary when you pay for a full year’s membership,” said Shiralee. Email info@montvillecommerce.com.au for more information.
