Electro-acoustic artist to perform in Nambour

Mia Petra’s performances are known for their lush, experimental soundscapes.

Electro-acoustic artist Mia Petra, known for her boundary-defying blend of contemporary folk, electro/ambient, soul, and jazz, will perform at The Presynct in Nambour on Saturday, 30th November. With support from Angela Newcomb and Angharad Drake, this highly anticipated show will showcase Petra’s expressive, genre-crossing sound.

Mia Petra’s performances are known for their lush, experimental soundscapes, featuring harmonically rich vocal arrangements, intricate double bass and percussion grooves, and lively fiddle lines—all seamlessly fused with a mix of acoustic and electronic elements.

Petra’s five-piece ensemble includes Timothy Merriken on double bass, Naomi Jones on fiddle/vocals, Rose Callaghan on drums/vocals, and Darcy Archer on percussion synth/vocals, promising an immersive and refreshingly unpredictable live experience.

“My ultimate goal is to strike that yummy balance between acoustic and electronic,” Petra explains. “I grew up around my mother’s singing groups and cabaret projects. That environment influenced my love for stagecraft and giving the audience an all-encompassing experience.”

This East Coast tour marks the release of Petra’s latest single, ‘Big/Heavy/Big,’ from her upcoming debut album, Skiing the Gut, set for release in 2025. “This new work reflects my personal travels, the experience of returning home after a year in Aotearoa, and the queer experience,” says Petra.

• The show will take place on Saturday, 30th November, from 7pm to 11:55pm at The Presynct, 15 Ann Street, Nambour. Tickets are $22 for Early Bird and $30 for General Admission, available online at Humanitix.
