Award proves the grass is greener at Maleny Golf Club

Rob Bailo mowing the well-manicured Maleny greens: “There are so many contributors and I’m just one.”

Maleny Golf Club’s congratulations go to its Greens Director and club stalwart Rob Bailo, who has been recognised for his tireless efforts  with a 2023 Queensland Golf Industry Volunteer of the Year Award.

Golf Australia has also nominated Rob to the AIS Sports Performance Awards in the Sport Volunteer of the Year category.

The category recognises outstanding contributions to a sporting organisation, club, team, or program over the past year for the good of their organisation, sport, and community, and without financial gain.

The AIS awards will be presented at the Australian Sport Performance Awards Night on 29 November 2023. Rob has been a Foundation member of the Maleny Golf Club since 2001 and has served as a member of the Management Committee (now Board) since 2013.

Rob, who has served as Greens Director over most of the Club’s existence and is one of two Life Members of the Club, was humbled by the recognition he’d received.

“Our club is so lucky in having such a great volunteer base and without it we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Rob said.  “The recognition in winning this award is nice, but also I feel a little embarrassed being singled out from such a great group of people.

“There are so many contributors and I’m just one.”

Maleny Golf Club was also a finalist for the Club of the Year Award while Mick McCombe was a finalist for Superintendent of the Year and Vice President Dr Max Whitten was a finalist for the Board Member of the Year.

Our congratulations to Max & Mick along with Nudgee Golf Club and all the other finalists and award winners announced on Thursday 19 October 2023.
