Coming to Montville: Piers Lane.

The world class classical music concerts for which Lucas Parklands at Montville has become known are continuing, with maestro Piers Lane AOto headline several big-name performances from early October.

Follow up concerts in November will feature Konstantin Shamray and Kristian Chong, and in December, Daniel Le and Allie Wang.

Maestro Lane, arguably Australia’s most famous classical musician, is scheduled to perform at the Sunshine Coast venue on October 5; however, he has now confirmed that he will perform a second concert for local music lovers on October 6.

In the October concerts, maestro Lane will present a mid-week recital of works by Franz Liszt and Edvard Grieg – including Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Liszt’s Sonata in B minor and Christmas Tree Suite 4-10, followed by Grieg’s Piano Sonata.

“Piers Lane is world renown and is arguably Australia’s most famous classical music export – he performs to great accolades around the world – and we are honoured that he is returning to Lucas Parklands for not one, but two concerts,” Mr Lucas said.

“The programs that Piers will perform are large and very difficult – the feature work, Liszt’s B minor Sonata, it is a monumental piece for the solo piano. It was controversial and polarising in its day but is now a standout work, and Montville is lucky to have it performed in our ‘back yard’.

The performances will be followed on November 12 (starting 5pm) by Konstantin Shamray and Kristian Chong, who will perform Shostakovich Piano concerto no. 2, with Konstantin as the soloist and Kristian performing the orchestral reduction, followed by Rachmaninov Piano suit no. 2 for two pianos, and then Schubert’s Fantasie for 4 hands in F minor.

And then on December 4 (starting 5pm), the Montville venue will host return performances by Daniel Le and Allie Wang, who will perform Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, Rachmaninov’s Russian Rhapsody for 2 pianos, Ravel’s Miroirs and Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz.

“For anyone who loves classical music, having the opportunity to experience all these versatile, varied and talented musicians in action, performing extremely memorable pieces from a matter of metres away in our intimate auditorium, is something that simply cannot be matched anywhere,” Mr Lucas said.

“For Konstantin and Kristian, and also Daniel Le and Allie Wang, we will have two pianos in action - one for the soloist and the second playing the orchestral reduction,” Mr Lucas explained.

“It’s a captivating style of performance, made even more breathtaking with such acclaimed pianists, and it will absolutely thrill the audience members – I’m not surprised that tickets are selling so quickly.”
