Local mother of three Alison Donaldson is promoting the idea for a new state high school to be built at Palmwoods.

She says the idea has overwhelming public support with surveys of parents in Eudlo, Mooloolah, Chevallum, Palmwoods, Woombye and Montville returning 95% support for the new school.

She has floated the idea with Queensland Education Minister Kate Jones, who suggested the demand needed to be around 1300 students before it would be pursued. Currently, the government estimates a demand of around 600 high school students locally, although Mrs Donaldson said survey results show this would be much higher.Mrs Donaldson has also met with local state MPs to discuss the issue.

“We have to convince the government that it’s needed in the long term and they need to set aside land for it, and once they have the land we can push to get it happening,” Mrs Donaldson said.

“I know everyone wants it, the survey shows 95% said, ‘yep, we want it’, Palmwoods will continue to grow and I think we should have a high school here.”Mrs Donaldson has formed the Hinterland High School Steering Committee to help promote the idea.It’s believed the State Government has plans to build high schools instead at Palmview and Caloundra South.
