Member for Glass House Andrew Powell has just announced the chosen winners for round three of his 2024 Local Heroes Grants and it’s chock full of community groups and individuals looking to better the lives of people in their local neighbourhoods.

“Once again as I seem prone to doing now, I couldn’t stick to just four winners,” said Mr Powell.

“There were actually thirteen applicants to this round so it was exceptionally difficult to narrow down the lucky winners.”

Rosetta Books

Next month, Rosetta Books have volunteered to run several events for the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival. They have secured best selling young adult fantasy author Lynette Noni to be the headline author for the program and their grant will cover the cost of Lynette’s appearance fee.

Beerburrum School of Arts Hall

This funding will assist with the costs of hiring rides for the annual Beerburrum Community Children’s Christmas Party. The Hall is currently seeking to hire a trackless train or horse and dray ride. The event, to be held on the 30th November, is sure to be fun for the whole family.

Eudlo War Memorial, pictured

Clive Plater and his grandson Hunter were proud recipients of their Local Heroes Grant to fund a new plaque to be inscribed with the names of Eudlo's Fallen, as they are not currently commemorated on the existing memorial.

Maleny Blackall Range Lions, pictured

The sponsorship will go towards the next Hinterland Meet and Greet event, designed to foster connections within the community, promote local businesses and support the Lions Club’s various charitable initiatives.

Silver Fox Initiative

The grant will contribute to the cost of coffee giveaways at various cafes in the Sunshine Coast region for World Mental Health Day. The aim is to connect people with Silver Fox Initiative for ongoing mental health and wellbeing support. World Mental Health Day is on Thursday 10th October 2024. 

Daniel Boughen, pictured

Daniel is a twelve-year-old boy attending Maleny State School. He lives with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder level 2, ADHD, written and verbal processing issues and generalised anxiety. Despite his limitations, Daniel continues to do his best every day at school, at home and in the wider community. Daniel is using his grant money to contribute towards the cost of an autism assistance dog which will further assist him to regulate his emotions and access the community.

Andrew would like to thank those who applied to this round but weren’t successful – the Woodford Scout Group, Maleny State High School Chaplaincy, Chloe Hart, Youturn, Glasshouse Olaves, the Maleny Men’s Shed and the Maleny Visitor Information Centre.

All unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to submit again for round four, closing on Friday 22nd November.
