The much-loved annual Palmwoods Christmas concert was founded as an initiative by the Palmwoods Community Branch Ltd Board of Directors on behalf of the Bank in a bid to give something simple back to the whole community.

“We thought that there was no better way than to sponsor a completely free event to  thank and acknowledge the support that the Palmwoods community gives to their Heritage Community Bank,” said Director Audrey Lyttle.

The first concert held at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall in 2018 was organised and managed by a special Christmas Memorial Hall Committee made up of members from the Memorial Hall.  “Thanks to that Committee, over the next few years these first very successful concerts were held at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall and the Piccabeen Green,” Audrey said. 

‘Loved & enjoyed by families’

“The Christmas Palmwoods Village Concerts were such a success and so loved & enjoyed by the families, children and parents of the community that the PCB Board of Directors decided they should continue to fund this project and that it should become an annual Palmwoods community event. 

“Unfortunately, due to Covid, a few concerts couldn’t take place and had to be postponed. After that, the Little Village Choir and representatives from a number of local groups formed the Palmwoods Christmas Committee. This wonderful band of volunteers, over the past few years, have successfully organised the many events on the day,” she said.

“Each year there are a host of activities arranged for the enjoyment of the families, face painting, fairy floss, drinks, a BBQ, and the Palmwoods Fire Brigade transports that all important person, Santa!

“Over the years, these concerts couldn’t have taken place without the work & dedication of this wonderful band of volunteers, and the many, many local organizations that step forward to lend a helping hand. These include Compass, the Palmwoods Fire Brigade, The Little Village Choir, dance groups, singers, the Sunshine Coast Brass Band and many, many more.”

Bank sponsorship continues

This year the ‘Little Village Christmas Concert’ is being organized by the Palmwoods State School P & C, and the Heritage Community Bank & PCB Ltd is delighted to continue to sponsor this event for the enjoyment of the Palmwoods Community. It will be held on the 14th of December at the Palmwoods State School oval from 3pm.

“The organisers have really outdone themselves this year, and there will be everything from carols, to face painting, hair braiding, temporary tattoos and market stalls, craft stalls, a petting zoo, free fairy floss, popcorn, slushies and a sausage sizzle. Santa will be arriving with the Palmwoods Fire Brigade and from 7pm there will be a family Christmas movie showing on the oval.

“It will be an incredibly festive way to celebrate Christmas and our beautiful Palmwoods community.”
