Mapleton Cafe brews support for local swim teen’s national dreams

Caffiene hit: LaBotiga owner Belinda Dawson is supporting Hamish Jackson’s quest for success at the National Championships.

Mapleton’s LaBotiga cafe has thrown its support behind 14-year-old swimmer Hamish Jackson as he gears up for the Australian Age Championships.

Hamish’s dedication and talent in the pool have earned him recognition, including a top-ten finish in eight events at the Queensland Championships last year.

The Nambour Piranhas squad member has dreams of making waves nationally, but needed financial backing for competitions, equipment, and travel.

Luckily LaBotiga owner Belinda Dawson stepped in. Belinda emphasised the importance of supporting local talent.

“We are thrilled to be able to support Hamish in his journey to the National Championships,” she said. “It is inspiring to see such passion and determination and we’re pleased to rally behind and empower our local talents.”

Over six days Hamish will contest eight events (50m fly & back, 100m fly & back, 200m fly and back, 200m Individual Medley and 400m IM).

Hamish joined Nambour Swim Club in 2017 and last year  placed top-ten in all eight of his events at the Queensland Championships including a silver in the 200m backstroke.

With dreams of making a splash on the national stage, Hamish, trains 6 days a week.

Hamish said he was keen to do well to show appreciation to the cafe, his parents, Kerrie and Carl Jackson, and to represent the Mapleton community.
