How to score a great morning’s fun and exercise in Nambour

True colours ... patriotic Nambour Badminton players, from left,  Jacki Kane, Henry Liu, Eunice Paulett, Tony Allen and Will Smith marked Australia Day in colourful fashion.

Last Tuesday morning Nambour Badminton Club members celebrated Australia Day by donning their most patriotic gear for the special day.

But despite Aussie Day high spirits things turned serious once the players hit the court. This reporter and his daughter were turned inside out and around in circles by our wiley opponents, one of whom we’re convinced had the shuttle on a string, such was his pinpoint accuracy.

While the impressive racquet speed and agility of serious players is wonderful to watch, others play at a more leisurely social pace. But everyone has a good time playing a game that works the body and reflexes. It’s high speed but low impact and accessible to anyone.

Tuesday morning is the weekly social day time session. Long time player and former club secretary Eunice Paulett said members were maintaining social distancing measures but anyone was welcome to come and play.

“We charge $5 for newcomers their first time. After that it’s $8 for non-members to play and $6 for members. We have spare racquets which we can lend newcomers free of charge.”

Other Nambour Club sessions are held Monday and Thursday nights.

Tuesday Morning Co-ordinator Jacki Kane said badminton was a great game because all ages and abilities could play. “It’s an all-weather sport and it’s a fun and friendly way to exercise,” she said.

The Badminton Centre is opposite Queensland Transport on Coronation Avenue in Nambour. For more information on Tuesday morning social badminton contact Jacki on 0427 006 687.
