The iconic and much loved Ginger Factory at Yandina was hit hard by the recent COVID lockdowns. But in typical country style, the staff used the time of closure to spruce up the facilities in preparation for re-opening.

“We really are so fortunate to have such a great bunch of people working here,” said Tourism Manager, Brenda Bailey. “We were able to access JobKeeper, and our staff came in and worked tirelessly to clean and refurbish the place. It is looking amazing,” she said.

“We have created different shopping zones at the entrance, and used original ginger crates and timber panelling to display our gorgeous ginger and gourmet products.

“People may not realise that we have so many food products here. It is a haven for foodies, with the largest selection of Buderim Ginger products in the world,” Brenda said. “Many of them are lines that are not available in supermarkets.”

The Buderim Ginger range includes ginger beers and cordial, marmalades and spreads, sweets and ginger pieces. The Ginger Shop also stocks a tempting selection of gifts, gourmet foods, beauty and skincare products, homewares, designer kitchenware, and a large range of honey products.

“Family visitors are the heart of this operation and everything we have done here is geared up to create a fun, relaxing and welcoming atmosphere,” Brenda said. “It is a free admission venue and we have 5,000 VIP members who drop in on a regular basis.”

“Our venue is predominantly enjoyed and supported by locals. It was such a joy to welcome back our guests who love to come and bring the kids (or grandkids), to enjoy the beautiful grounds. Our original Boat and Train rides are still the most popular attractions, and our Bee Show and honey tastings are proving to be extremely popular too,” she said.

“The grounds are just a beautiful place to spend time and everyone loves the playground and our lagoon which is home to 13 turtles.”

“We have some wonderful boutique shopping in our heritage style village, including Macadamia & Co, Giuseppe’s Workshop, Traditional Herbs & Scents, and divine Kokopod chocolate.”

The 1km Rainforest walk offers a calm and peaceful opportunity to reconnect with nature and will be home to the venue’s latest exciting interactive attraction to be announced in coming weeks.

“Most recently, we have introduced our dance sessions with Ginger Boy and they are proving to be a lot of fun,” said Brenda. 

“He does a little dance called the ‘Ginger Rumble’, and encourages the kids to join in. Then they have the opportunity to have a photo with him. We think it will be a bit of a hit.”
