Farm Gym event raises money to help women in crisis

Acacia Harvison, owner of The Farm Gym in Nambour, is passionate about the work Lily House does in providing a safe space for mothers at risk.

“Our partnership with Lily House has grown every year and together we are developing new ways to nurture and support these young women and their children,” said Acacia.

“In 2019 we were proud to launch ‘Run in Her Shoes’, a charity event which raised money for Lily House,” Acacia said. “Our incredibly successful second event in 2021 raised over $3500 and we are so excited to be hosting the event again this year on Saturday, May 28.

“‘Run in Her Shoes’ is an opportunity for our extended community to unite,” Acacia explained. “This means our families, our businesses and our sporting and community groups. It is a reminder of how much we can achieve together”.

The ‘Run in Her Shoes’ concept is simple. You can choose to walk or run ‘The Grindstone’ obstacle course solo, or with a group of friends, family, or even a sporting club. The course is 4.5kms and there is a two hour time cap to complete as many laps as you can.

“We are planning a family fun day and there will be a ‘Kids Zone’  jumping castle and activities for the kids for the duration of the event,” said Acacia

The entry fee for 16+ years is $35 and $20 for 7+ years. Entry to the Kids Zone is $5 per child.

Parking is by gold coin donation.

“Bring some cash with you for a $2 bag drop and extra for a sausage sizzle,” said Acacia. There will be a coffee van and a fun warm- up activity will also be part of the event. Limited edition shirts will be available on the day and all proceeds from the event will be donated to Lily House.

Lily House Business Manager Jo Higgins said her organisation was thrilled to have the generous support of such an outstanding local business. “The Farm Gym community have been wonderful supporters of Lily House and the women we work with,” she said.

“Having people like Acacia and her team working with our girls to bring courage and healing during our weekly sessions has made a significant difference to many young women over the years. The ‘Run in Her Shoes’ event is proof that the Farm Gym community understands the ladies of Lily House and the work we do to help them grow with love.”
