Khoury: 'We desire a free, prosperous and safe country'

By Lisa Khoury United Australia Party Candidate for Fairfax

The 2022 Election Results are in, and nationally the Labor Party will govern with less than one third of the primary vote, lowest in post war history.

The United Australia Party did not win a seat in the lower house, and at the time of writing the Victorian Senate seat will be a close call for the UAP. On reflection, was it our policies?

Our policies were brilliant, they put the Australian people first, made sense, paid for through wealth creation not taxation and protected Australians from economic crisis. Maybe if we look at the electoral system, and the mainstream media’s resistance to report on any other option for the Australian people we can start to understand the focus on two parties only.

The election result has raised questions within our community regarding our electoral process. Current Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) legislation on polling night, acknowledging and reinforcing the two Candidate preferred system directs all preferences to the two major party’s in most cases, no matter what the voters’ intentions. The system of ‘brain washing the community’ is supported by the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, made up solely of Labor and Coalition representatives.

Does this sound democratic? It is understandable the Australian people have difficulty in seeing another option to govern our country.

In the past two years national and local issues have merged and become Australia wide concerns.  Looking ahead, we will see a strain on small business, inflation will affect everyone, increasing interest rates will burden homeowners and the social fall-out of tough economic times will increase.

During my campaign I realised as a UAP candidate I share desires with my community. We desire a free, prosperous, safe country that values our potential, provides opportunity and takes care of our environment. Looking towards the future I hope to unite our community through these common desires and build resilience while we navigate the next three years.
