Compass calls for help to create a Nambour Christmas market buzz

The Compass Institute is planning to bring the community together and create some festive cheer with a Christmas Market near their Wabi Sabi Gift shop in C-Square.

The Christmas Market will be held Thursday December 8 from 10am–1pm. It will represent a natural progression from the organisation’s monthly markets which have been growing steadily.

CEO David Dangerfield is calling for stallholders and organisations to get behind the initiative.

“We’ve had the monthly little stall out front of Wabi Sabi and the goal has always been to try and use Christmas to engage with more community groups and potential stall holders.

“There’s no cost for people to come have a stall. And you don’t even have to be selling something. You may want to promote your group or organisation or a local business or sports club.

“And of course you may want to sell various products. We’re just hopeful of getting a dozen or so tables set up, and people selling some stuff.”

The market draws on offerings prepared by trainees at local Compass facilities including fresh organic produce from Compass Farm at Hunchy.

It will also feature arts and crafts including woodwork, pottery, screen printing and paintings from Wabi Sabi and food from Connections Cafe (on Nambour Connection Road).

“We’ll put up some decorations, put some Christmas music on, and try and bring a little bit of joy into this space,” said David.

It is hoped next year it can become a fortnightly market, and perhaps then a weekly event with a range of crafts, goods and fresh produce to draw people back in to Nambour again.

“It should be a lot of fun and there will be some great fresh produce and I encourage everyone to come and we hope it will help kickstart a larger regular market where other stall holders come join us every time.”

Compass is looking for individuals, businesses and organisations to join them for the December 6 markets from 10am–1pm. Phone 5445 9116 or email tye@compassinc.org.au for an information pack or drop in and see Tye Naismith at Wabi Sabi in Currie Street.
