New: Chony's Art Room offers tuition for Nambour kids

Chony Bowden: “... when young people are in the process of art-making they are calmer and more engaged.”

Chony Bowden, founder of Chony’s Art Room, is excited to be launching the next iteration of her Art School from The Old Ambulance Station at 80 Howard Street Nambour, for children aged 7 to 14 during Term 2.

“I was born and raised in Nambour and after spending many years travelling and ‘teaching the world’, it has been wonderful to return home and establish a business here,” Chony said.

Growing up, Chony enjoyed being creative and felt that she ‘might be artistic’.

“I never had the opportunity to learn techniques and skills inside or outside of the school setting though,” she said.

“It wasn’t until after I had attained my Education Degree and started teaching internationally in schools that employed visual arts teachers that my love for teaching the arts was born. I realised how important it is for people of all ages to have a creative outlet, to find time to explore and play mindfully with a variety of materials. And I noticed that when young people are in the process of art making they are calmer and more engaged.”

Chony has spent years developing the skills to become an expert arts facilitator, and has worked alongside multidisciplinary artists, in arts festivals and community events around Australia and the world.

Chony’s Art Room was founded three years ago and it provides mindful based, visual art workshops for all ages and spaces across the Sunshine Coast, together with an Art School in Coolum.

Chony’s Art Room’s  - Art School in Coolum and Nambour are project based which means pieces can take 2 to 4 weeks to complete.

“No two art works are ever the same at my Art School,”  Chony explained. “We are not trying to recreate existing images, but rather provide a supportive environment for students to express themselves using the materials and techniques that they have been provided and shown how to use.

“I am so proud to be able to bring this concept to Nambour.”

Classes will be held on Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm to 5pm. For more info go to Instagram chonys.art.room or Facebook Chonys Art Room. To enquire further of book- www.chonysartroom.com or Email - chonysartroom@gmail.com
