Business Yandina reflects on  big year, elects new committee

Business Yandina President Bill Gissane, right, thanks Henry Derclaye of Bar Deco.

Business Yandina (The Yandina Chamber of Commerce) held their Annual General Meeting at Bar Deco, Stevens Street, Yandina on Tuesday October 10.

The guest speaker was Mark Cameron, President Coolum Business & Tourism Association. Mark spoke to the meeting about their initiatives in mental wellness for their members. This was in light of Business Yandina recently being awarded a state government grant to deliver mental wellness programs and support.

Mark’s presentation was received with great interest and helped BY members understand how services are best delivered in this area.

2022 President, Bill Gissane, reported on the successful year for BY. Highlights were the successful return of the Yandina Street Fair, the successful launch of the Visit Yandina campaign and the implementation of a new computer platform to run BY.

Bill pointed to the growth of the population in postcode 4561 and said the organisation was looking forward to another successful year. He thanked the BY committee and paid special tribute to the street fair committee.

In addition, he pointed to the number of state government and council grants that have allowed BY to flourish and he thanked both those bodies and the local representatives for their ongoing support.

New committee, Belgian feast

The new committee was elected and included some tried and true members plus some new blood: President Bill Gissane; Vice President John O’Leary; Treasurer Jo Law; Secretary Gail Ferguson; Committee members Dennis Sutton, Sharon Ogilvie and Greg Corbin.

Following the meeting, Henry Derclaye and his staff at Bar Deco provided sumptuous Belgian food which was a perfect finale for the evening.

“If it wasn’t for the generosity of Henry and similar members, our meetings would not be possible,” said Bill. “Make sure you come back to Bar Deco to support one of the real attractions of Yandina.”
