Local artists make finals of Brisbane Portrait Prize

Little Big Acts of Hope by Judith Sinnamon

The Brisbane Portrait Prize has announced its 64 finalists for 2024, selected from over 575 entries.

Among these finalists are Sunshine Coast locals Holly Field, Judith Sinnamon, Peter Hudson, and Nicole Voevodin-Cash, showcasing a variety of mediums including oil on linen, digital, and oil on canvas.

Holly Field, from Forest Glen, presents “Nicolette,” an oil on canvas capturing Brisbane ceramic artist Nicolette Johnson.

Field, who transitioned from a career as an emergency department nurse to full-time artist, conveys a calm, reflective moment in her work.

Judith Sinnamon, based in Balmoral Ridge, is a finalist with “Little Big Acts of Hope - Hannah Moloney, South of Timtumili Minanya (the Derwent).”

This oil on linen portrait features ABC TV’s Gardening Australia presenter, Hannah Moloney, in a scene filled with optimism and hope.

Maleny artist Peter Hudson’s entry is “Nathan,” an oil on linen depicting writer and poet Nathan Shepherdson. This dual portrait also honors Nathan’s father, renowned artist Gordon Shepherdson, reflecting the artistic influence across generations.

The Brisbane Portrait Prize exhibition will be held at the State Library Queensland from Saturday, August 3 to Sunday, November 10. Winners will be announced on opening night, Friday, August 2, with public voting for the People’s Choice Award continuing until the end of October.
